Cold-Pressed Hemp Oil: Everything You Need To Know

Cold-Pressed Hemp Oil: Everything You Need To Know

The most common method for producing CBD Oil is CO2 extraction. This involves heating CO2 to a state where it is both a liquid and a gas and using this as a solvent to extract the cannabinoids from the plant material.

This process is incredibly effective for selecting the perfect cannabinoid profile, but some people prefer a more artisanal approach to CBD. Cold-pressed hemp oil results in a product that is as close to nature as you can get. This means you’ll enjoy all of the benefits of CBD, with the added perk of something known as the “entourage effect”. Intrigued? Read on!

What is Cold-pressed Hemp Oil?

Full spectrum by default, cold-pressed hemp oil is packed with vitamins and antioxidants. Cold-pressing is an eco-friendly process that utilises the whole plant with all the nutrients left intact for a greater entourage effect.

This traditional method of extraction involves applying high pressure to all parts of the hemp stalks, flowers and leaves at a very low temperature. This process produces a resin that contains all major and minor cannabinoids, alongside some other beneficial botanical compounds including terpenes and flavonoids. It also happens to be rich in essential fatty acids, including Omega-3 and 6.

Terpenes are the compounds responsible for the distinct smells associated with some of our favourite plants. This includes linalool (lavender), pinene (pine), limonene (citrus) and humulene (balsam wood). These offer many therapeutic benefits for wellbeing.

Flavonoids are a type of phytonutrient (nutrient from plants) that offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits when consumed.

Does Cold-pressed Hemp Oil Contain CBD?

Yes, cold-pressed hemp oil is made by releasing the raw plant extract and CBD is a natural constituent of the hemp plant.

Love Hemp CBD Plus is a cannabinoid-rich hemp oil containing all the goodness of the hemp plant with 250mg CBD per 10ml bottle alongside other cannabinoids. Our cold-pressed hemp oil contains less than 1mg THC, which means it is completely legal and will not get you 'high'.

Due to the natural extraction process, cold-pressed hemp oil has a relatively higher potency and taste, offering a natural, earthy flavour which some may describe as being mildly nutty.

An interesting fact about cold-pressed hemp oil is that the flavour can vary  between batches due to the terpene profile. Each terpene has individual characteristics and these can differ slightly between hemp harvests.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The entourage effect is a term more commonly associated with cannabis use, but it's also relevant to CBD users and refers to the way different cannabinoids work together to enhance the perceived benefits.

For cannabis users, this typically means that the CBD content of their cannabis will reduce some of the negative effects associated with THC, resulting in a more mellow “high”. For CBD users, the entourage effect refers to the way in which the different hemp plant compounds work in harmony to regulate and boost the effectiveness of one another and better support your wellbeing journey.

CBD is one of many beneficial cannabinoids, and we are still learning about the benefits of others, including CBG, CBA and CBC. Whilst CBD is just one of the many naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, it creates a greater effect when paired with other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.

This is one reason that CBD isolate is often considered to be less beneficial than a broad or full-spectrum CBD product. Isolating the cannabinoids is thought to be less beneficial than allowing them to work together.

These cannabinoids then interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system. This system is essential for bringing balance to the body’s essential functions, including our mood, sleep and even appetite.

How To Use Cold-Pressed Hemp Oil?

New to CBD? We recommend starting with 16 drops (that’s 10mg CBD), or 0.4ml daily. Simply use the handy graduated pipette to place the drops under the tongue, and hold them in place for one to two minutes before swallowing. You can increase the number of drops gradually as required, whilst keeping under our recommended maximum allowance of 70mg CBD or 2.8ml hemp oil each day. Just check our CBD dosage guide for more information.
